Welcome to Mackenzie's World! Thursday 11 June marked the premiere of Yve Blake's brand new work Mackenzie, a hilarious, twisted and deeply camp reimagining of Macbeth, directed by Virginia Gay.
The production opened at The Neilson Nutshell with an evening immersed in Y2K nostalgia, as the foyer buzzed with excitement, character cut outs and early 2000s bangers.
The performance played to a full house and a standing ovation, followed by speeches from Executive Director, James Evans and Mackenzie Director, Virginia Gay.
It was a delight for Bell Shakespeare supporters to mingle after the show and compare Blake's satisfying "easter eggs" from Macbeth and iconic 2000s pop culture references in Mackenzie.
Thank you for all who attended the evening and a very special thanks to Mackenzie Production Patron, Katie Page, CEO Harvey Norman and to our Mackenzie Supporting Syndicate: Susan Burns, Nelson Meers Foundation, Sidney Myer Fund and The Weir Anderson Foundation.
Mackenzie is on at The Neilson Nutshell until 18 July before it struts to Arts Centre Melbourne.
