The John Bell Scholarship supports emerging performers from regional Australia to pursue a career in the performing arts. Last month, we welcomed the four recipients to Bell Shakespeare HQ for their week of training and mentorship. The recipients this year were Wajanoah Donohoe from Canberra ACT, Rori Doherty from Port Stephens NSW, Safiah Sawal from Wagga Wagga NSW and Angus O'Farrell from Macedon VIC.
They worked with our Founding Artistic Director John Bell and Artistic Director Peter Evans, undertook acting masterclasses and training, observed Julius Caesar rehearsals and took excursions to see Shakespeare on screen. To conclude the week, they performed a devised work along with monologues from Much Ado About Nothing, Coriolanus and Othello. The audience of Bell Shakespeare staff, the cast and creatives of Julius Caesar and John Bell himself were all incredibly impressed by how talented this cohort of budding actors are.
