One touch of nature makes the whole world kin – Troilus and Cressida

This August, we were absolutely delighted to return to Port Lincoln High School to deliver two special Players performances ‘Such Sweet Sorrow’ and ‘Macbeth: The Rehearsal’. Our brilliant powerhouse that is Team Titania – Oliver Crawford, Kate Owen, and Umai Shantharajah – had a ball bringing the wonder of Shakespeare and creative learning into the life and heart of the Eyre Peninsula.

At the core of our Players touring ensemble is our mission to make Shakespeare not only accessible, but truly transformative for young people. The performances are carefully designed and rehearsed to feel meaningful, relevant, and inspiring for a whole range of diverse student needs. Whether our actors are in a school for the first time or returning for the tenth year in a row, they understand the importance of active, embodied learning strategies that, when implemented, can quickly turn a reserved environment into a place of curiosity and creative joy.

One of the joys of returning year after year, as we’ve been lucky enough to do with Port Lincoln High School, is the chance to build meaningful and long-lasting relationships. Over time, trust and engagement increases, and the impact of our work continues to crystallise. This year, we were thrilled to see just how strongly the performances resonated with Classroom Teacher Helen Marks:

As always, Bell Shakespeare delivered a masterclass in making Shakespeare accessible, fun, and unforgettable – their shows are highly engaging and motivational for our English/Drama students and staff. As one of our highly valued community partners, we welcome them back year after year – bravo, Bell Shakespeare!

What a wonderful reminder of the way we brightly and steadfastly open new doors to students, teachers, and communities alike.

None of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of our donors who support the Sharing Shakespeare fund. This allows us to return to schools like Port Lincoln High School year after year. We are hopeful that next year will bring even more opportunities for creative learning on the Eyre Peninsula, and we simply can’t wait to see what unfolds.
