Every year talented young Australians are forced to leave our shores because of lack of opportunity at home.
The Young Artists Endowment is a unique opportunity for an emerging theatre director to work for a year with the highly experienced directors at Bell Shakespeare.
The Young Artists Endowment provides a unique scholarship opportunity for an emerging theatre director to work for a year with the highly experienced directors at Bell Shakespeare.
Successful candidates are chosen in consultation with major performing arts schools and other areas of the industry. The scholarship provides the successful candidate with a wage and ensures access to a variety of directing experiences including major new theatre productions, a broad portfolio of national learning initiatives, and the work of Bell Shakespeare’s development arm, Mind’s Eye.
Bell Shakespeare’s first recipient, 29 year old Jessica Tuckwell, began work with us in January 2010. As Director in Residence Jessica has worked as Assistant Director on King Lear, Twelfth Night and our Actors At Work in-schools programmes as well as being involved in Mind's Eye projects and literary and company management throughout the year.
