A small number of new pieces are taken into creative development each year by Mind’s Eye. Seeking out bold and innovative ideas for development, submissions are invited through a formal process conducted annually.
We encourage artists of all disciplines to bring their ideas for development to us and we endeavour to see as much new work as possible.
CAN I APPLY?
All applicants to Mind’s Eye need to be citizens or permanent residents of Australia and aged 18 years or over.
Applicants to Mind’s Eye should ideally have at least two professional production credits to their name.
Applications will be accepted from individual artists, creative partnerships and independent companies. If you are part of a team, one member must nominate themselves as the key project contact.
WHAT SHOULD I SUBMIT?
A 2-3 page outline of the artistic rationale for the piece. You may also include up to eight pages of support material which may include a treatment, script, drawings, photos etc, as well as a DVD, CD or other media containing material of relevance.
An outline of any work that has already been undertaken in relation to the project and the artist/s involved to this point.
CVs of the artist/s involved in the project.
A description of the way of working that best supports your creative development process together with your desired outcomes.
You may wish to include reviews of previous works up to a maximum of three pages.
HOW ARE DECISIONS MADE?
Decisions are made on the basis of a project’s artistic merit and its consistency with the aesthetic and philosophical aims of Mind’s Eye.
Previous artistic or professional skills of the participating artist/s will be strongly considered.
A clearly stated artistic rationale that illustrates how Shakespeare’s works or that of his contemporaries has informed the proposed project will be highly regarded.
Each submission received on or before the closing date will be reviewed and considered by the Associate Artistic Director, Mind’s Eye Producer, Artist-in-Residence and Director-in-Residence. Applicants whose submissions have been shortlisted for potential development will be invited to meet and further discuss their artistic aims, process and desires for their work.
Unsuccessful applicants will be notified in writing.
A decision on what will be creatively developed will be made within 3 months of the closing date.
Unfortunately we’re not able to respond to general inquiries in relation to your submission during the selection period, nor can we provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
Application materials can be returned if requested and if a self addressed stamped envelope is included with your submission.
Mind’s Eye is primarily about supporting new work in creative development. Whilst there is an intention to produce some of the work for an audience, Bell Shakespeare makes no guarantees that projects submitted will be taken through to production.
