Shakespeare provides us with an inexhaustible repository of ideas. There is a philosophical debate in almost every speech and a new piece of theatre in every image. More than any writer, Shakespeare has inspired artists to imagine and to create other worlds.
Mind's Eye, Bell Shakespeare’s artistic development arm, will harness the best of these ideas and allow them to be put to the test.
Mind’s Eye will allow artists to push the boundaries of their form and explore their connection to the contemporary world giving them a safe platform from which they can perform daring feats. It is a place of experimentation, development and risk taking.
New work developed for Mind’s Eye may be initiated by writers, designers, directors, composers, choreographers or performers.
Providing an avenue for writers, Mind’s Eye will also commission playwrights whose ideas reflect the scale and ambition that Shakespeare and other classic writers modeled, supporting a connection to a strong writing tradition.
