Stage For Life winners arrive

The winners of the 2010 AUSTAR Stage for Life work experience opportunity have arrived in the Bell Shakespeare Sydney office. Tristen Vo from Year 12 at Taminmin College in Lambell's Lagoon, NT and Emma Miegel from Year 11 at Lameroo Regional Community School in Lameroo, SA will be spending the week with us in Sydney during the lead up to the opening of Twelfth Night at Sydney Opera House.

Make A Scene 2010 winners announced
The 2010 Make A Scene winners have been announced! Make A scene invited students across Australia to interpret a Shakespeare quote through drawing, photograph, illustration, animation or movie. Winners were chosen from 342 entries by a judging panel including John Bell, Andy Griffiths and Steve Jacobs.

New Associate Artistic Director Appointed

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Evans as Bell Shakespeare's new Associate Artistic Director. Peter will join the Company in November.

Peter was our Associate Director in 2005 and has directed several productions for the Company over the years including Macbeth, The Two Gentleman of Verona and The Tempest. Peter is currently the Associate Director of Melbourne Theatre Company, a position he has held since 2007.

Together with Artistic Director John Bell AO, Peter Evans will be responsible for the artistic leadership and direction of the Company as it embarks on its next phase.

In addition to his role as Associate Artistic Director, Peter will be the Artistic Director for our research and development arm Mind’s Eye.

Peter’s other theatre credits include directing productions for Sydney Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre, the Store Room, Red Stitch Actors Theatre, New Theatre, Theatre Jamb, Theatre Adami, the Studio Company at Belvoir St Theatre and New Zealand’s Court Theatre.

King Lear to air on ABC2

Join Bell Shakespeare as we continue to celebrate our 20th anniversary through 2010 when King Lear airs on ABC2 on Sunday 1 August at 7.30pm.

ABC recorded a live performance of the show at the Arts Centre in Melbourne and we're excited to share it with all of Australia.

Just Macbeth! shortlisted for Prime Minister's Literary Award

Just Macbeth! by Andy Griffiths has been shortlisted for the 2010 Prime Minister's Literary Award in the children's fiction category. The stage production is currently playing in Sydney and will tour to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the UK.

Ian Wilding wins Patrick White Playwrights' Award

Congratulations to Ian Wilding, winner of the 2009 Patrick White Playwrights' Award for his play Forever Seven.

Forever Seven was commissioned by Bell Shakespeare's artistic development arm, Mind's Eye.

Best Costume Design - Bruce McKinven (The Alchemist)
